ETBE GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE) is an organic compound, a volatile, flammable and colourless liquid, slightly soluble in water.
ETBE USE:
Fuel component, octane booster.
It can be used as an industrial solvent.
HAZARD LEVEL:
- Substance suitable for fire suppression: CO2, extinguishing powder, alcohol-resistant fire foam.
- Cannot be extinguished with water.
- Hazardous decomposition products are carbon dioxide; in the case of incomplete combustion, carbon monoxide.
- Its vapours are heavier than air, and form an explosive mixture when mixed with air.
- Prevent build-up of electrostatic charges.
- NDo not stay in the danger zone without proper protective clothing resistant to chemical attack and isolation respirators.
- Harmful to health by inhalation and in contact with skin.
