TOLUENE:

Toluene is a colourless liquid that boils at 111 Co. It has a benzene-like odour. Insoluble in water, freely miscible with organic solvents. When storing, pay attention to the material of the container, it dissolves certain plastics. It evaporates heavily.

TOLUENE USE:

Toluene is an important chemical solvent and the base material for a wide range of intermediates. Use in the production of polymeric plastics, synthetic fibres, artificial resins and synthetic rubbers, paints, detergents, stationery (fast-drying felt-tip pens), solvents.

MAIN PRODUCTS PRODUCED FROM TOLUENE:

Phenol TDI (toluene diisocyanate) Caprolactam Nitrotoluene Phthalates

HAZARD LEVEL::

Toluene is classified as "Flammable and explosive". Its vapour is heavier than air, may travel a considerable distance to a source of ignition and flash back. Water is not suitable for extinguishing burning toluene, only for cooling containers. Toluene floats on the surface of water and may re-ignite. Keep in a well-ventilated place, away from sources of heat and ignition and strong oxidizing agents.

SUBSTANCE SUITABLE FOR FIRE SUPPRESSION:

CO2, extinguishing powder, alcohol-resistant extinguishing foam and sand. Can be stored in carbon steel, stainless steel and most metal containers.

Packaging:

IBC (1000 litres), Barrel (200 litres), Bottle (5 litres)
